BI Response About Bitcoin Users
Bank Indonesia (BI) is so aggressively promoting virtual currency as Bitcoin cannot be used as a payment instrument. Because, the only legal payment instrument in Indonesia is the rupiah.
However, information circulates if there are currently around 700 thousand Indonesians investing in bitcoin. The average number of virtual currency users mentioned is millennial.
Responding to this, the Head of the BI Payment System Policy Department, Onny Widjanarko said, if the information was correct, then it could not do much. Users can only accept the risk of their choice.

"If it's already taken, take a risk. Profit or loss," he said at the Bank Indonesia Building, Jakarta, Wednesday (1/31).
For that reason, he appealed to the public not to use bitcoin or invest in other virtual currencies. The reason is, if it is done, the stability of the Indonesian monetary system will be threatened.
"Our hope is not to expand before it is clear. If it is clear the new buyers please take a decision. The danger is great. We remind you again that we learn about the events that have taken place in various countries," he said.
If the appeal from the central bank cannot be ignored, Onny continued, his side could not do much. However, he reminded that the use of currencies other than the rupiah would be sanctioned by the state.
"If you take take and risk, please maintain it. If you don't dare, just try to return it. You can or not. We see it for those who don't. Great risk," he said.
